New Holland Elementary School

Description:

The original Summit Valley Elementary School was expanded and renamed New Holland Elementary School. The addition doubled the size of the existing school. The school now houses grades K-3 from the old New Holland Elementary School and grades 4-6 from Summit Valley Elementary School. The addition included classrooms, gym, library, and a cafeteria expansion. The existing school was completely renovated with new finishes, windows, roof and mechanical/electrical systems. The project was completed while Joel K. Sims was an Associate at RLPS Architects.


Leo E. Solomon Educational Complex

Description:

The Leo E. Solomon Educational Complex/Plains Memorial Junior High replaced existing schools in the district. The school was designed as two separate schools. This new state of the art school accommodates 1,650 students. The structure consists of two stories and contains two distinctly separate elementary and junior high schools. The site accommodates parking, bus loading areas, athletic fields, running track, and bicycle/walking trails.
The junior high portion (grades 7/8) contains classrooms, a gym, library, cafeteria and offices. The elementary school portion (K-6) has a multipurpose room, library, cafeteria and a covered play area. One of the unique features of this school is the built-in flexibility. Two independent cafeterias can be opened into one large assembly area, which can be further expanded into the adjacent multipurpose room to make an even larger room. The 185,000 sf building accommodates 1000 elementary school students and 650 junior high students. The project was completed while Joel K. Sims, AIA  was Senior Vice President/ Equity Partner at Quad Three Group.


Wycallis Elementary School

Description:

This new K-5 elementary school replaces the existing Westmoreland Elementary School. This 500-student elementary school is the last school built on the district’s 100 + acre campus. The school has classrooms, a gymnasium, cafeteria, and related support spaces. An outdoor seating area is located adjacent to the new media center. The district’s administration offices are connected to the elementary school but have a separate main entrance. The district office wing contains a board room, offices, storage, and other support spaces. The project was completed while Joel K. Sims, AIA  was Senior Vice President/ Equity Partner at Quad Three Group.


SDL Master Plan

LOCATION: School District of Lancaster (SDL)
SIZE: 22 buildings


Description:

The School District of Lancaster retained Sims Architects to conduct a Comprehensive Master Plan for the district. Over 20 buildings were evaluated in addition to the  athletic fields.  After numerous committee meetings, a prioritization chart was developed to identify the school that needed to be addressed first. In addition, several preliminary designs were created to show potential solutions to the building program. After a successful plan was developed, the district undertook a 150 million dollar building program.
